Tiamara puts words to action through drive

Together with Idle Auto, 15-year-old Tiamara delivered her promise to help the young girls during their periods.

Tiamara Andrew has fulfilled her dream of coming through for the young girls in an effort to fight ‘period poverty’. In a previous interview with Fourways Review, the 15-year-old told us she started the pad drive initiative after she had learnt that young girls from disadvantaged backgrounds miss classes because they cannot afford pads.

She was able to achieve her miss through donations from locals and various stakeholders and raised more than 6 000 pads. She said this broke her record because initially, she put a target of at least 1 500 that will cover the young girls for the next 12 months.

“As I saw pads overflowing at our sanitary donation drop-off point, I was at a loss for words. And that’s when I told myself that united with many we will make a profound impact in the lives of many females facing period poverty.”

The donations were gathered by Tiamara through her pad drive with Idle Auto Expo.

On Sunday, July 23, Tiamara gathered schoolgirls from Fourways and surrounding areas at Monte Casino to deliver her promise. She said she has always strived to boost the confidence of young girls, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds and through philanthropy work, she is able to realise her dreams.

“Together, we can make a profound impact on the lives of many women and girls facing period poverty, instilling in them a sense of self-worth, resilience, and determination to break free from the shackles of limitations,” said Tiamara.

Fourways Review was there to witness the eventful day where hundreds of car enthusiasts were also gathered from Ferndale on Republic and headed to the Monte Casino Piazza area to also drop off their donations to support the pad drive.

Amputee dancer Musa Motha from Britain’s Got Talent is also present to show support of the pad drive.

The other exciting activities included super- and muscle-cars on display with an hour-long thrilling entertaining programme by Idle Auto Expo. Various speakers, dancers and singers were also present to entertain the crowd.

She said the sanitary drive, as a result, is something she wants to stay consistent with going forward, because she wants to see the end of poverty, “I do want to touch on various kinds of other missions like skills development and education.”

Musa Motha who made history on an international stage, Britain’s Got Talent, was also present at the pad drive initiative for moral support.
