Dainfern College’s Grade 6 learners explored the South African Mint. The college became the first school to embark on the adventure since the pre-covid-19 era.
The learners had the opportunity to learn from the chief coin designer and chief die sinker who shared fascinating insights. They also enjoyed an informative museum tour, unveiling the captivating history of South African circulation and collectable coins.
The learners participated in a coin tower-building contest and witnessed the creation of an R5 coin using the oldest coining press in the country. Each learner received a unique edition R5 collectable coin embellished with a whale as a special keepsake.
