Police nabbed three suspects for scamming jobseekers

The suspects ran a recruitment office in Douglasdale.

A male and two female suspects were arrested by officers of the Gauteng Commercial Crime Investigation Unit for allegedly scamming people who were in search of employment.

According to a police statement, the suspects had offices in Douglasdale from which they operated their recruitment scams and were arrested on June 26.

“The police received information about an alleged recruitment scam. It is reported that the suspects would advertise job vacancies at various companies for different positions,” read the statement.
“The applicants would be requested to pay a certain amount for police clearance and administration. Police investigation revealed that all the information provided by the suspects was false.”

Gauteng police spokesperson Captain Mavela Masondo warned residents to be on high alert and offered some tips for job seekers in their hunt for employment.

“People must always verify with relevant government departments if the recruitment agency is registered and legitimate before they give money to such agencies,” Masondo advised.

Masondo told Fourways Review the suspects had been charged with fraud.

“Police are appealing to anyone who might have fallen to this scam to contact Colonel Asogan Naidoo from the Gauteng Commercial Crime Investigation Unit on 082 820 6174.”
