One Fourways resident shares his love for cars

Petrol-head Dryston Govender has a love for cars he wants to share with YouTube.

One Fourways resident’s love for motoring has led him to create content on cars after years of passion.

Dryston Govender (19) discovered his love for all things cars from his father from a young age.
“He got me interested into motoring at a very young age. My dad grew up in his own family’s automotive engineering business and now owns his own Bosch Car Service Centres. From a very young age, you would find me running around in the workshop, fiddling with the cars and the machinery,” he said.
His love for motoring, crafting and working on cars and engines led to him creating a social media presence all about cars.

“One of my key goals is to have a platform from which I could share my love and passion for cars to the world. I hope to educate, create awareness, and get people involved in everything that concerns cars,” he said.

“I absolutely love taking apart a car to see the intricacies of the car, how it was designed and developed and how the various components in the car work together to lead to the working and performance of the car. Fabricating and custom making parts for my car projects and problem solving, is what I also enjoy a lot.”
When not working on cars and content, Govender is a law student who often helps coaching his younger sister in basketball. He also assists in his father’s Bosch Car Service Centre.
While Govender has a love for cars, he said it is important for many young people to know about caring for and maintaining cars. He added that his content provides viewers with the basics about how to maintain their cars.

“For young people when they get their first car, they only see the freedom that comes with driving, so the last thing on their mind is the maintenance that comes with the car,” he said.
“Preventative maintenance is one of the most important things to do on a car. It increases the longevity of the car; it saves you money in the long run and keeps you safe on the road. An example is feeling and listening to how your car brakes will assist in determining whether your brake pads or discs need to be changed.”
Currently, Govender is working on building his car the 1991 BMW E30 325IS Evolution 1 from scratch. He is also in the process of building a cooling system for the car.
