Big brand and clinic hands over garden

Witkoppen Clinic identified community members who received Fifty Gardens in a Box and 50 food parcels were handed out by Tiger Brands.

Food scarcity is one of the major issues the world faces and one local community will now have more control of what’s available to them, thanks to a generous donation.

The Witkoppen Clinic together with Tiger Brands gifted the Diepsloot community with a vegetable garden that will help to sustain them for years to come.

Fifty Gardens in a Box and 50 food parcels were handed out by Tiger Brands to community members identified by the Witkoppen Clinic.
The community garden was prepared by Reel Life, who also provided skills training on maintaining and caring for a garden.

Witkoppen Clinic’s business development manager Dagmar Khan said, “This is one of their yearly charity initiatives that try to help families in rural communities. We have a list of beneficiaries we work with and that helps us identify families in need. We always thrive to make a positive contribution to our local community members and help improve certain situations.”

Training provides individuals with the skills needed to establish their own vegetable gardens for the benefit of their immediate family and community. Each box will sustain one family for a year by producing seasonal vegetables and can also be used to generate a small income.

It’s designed to empower individuals and communities to become self-sufficient by sharing critical knowledge and skills. We provide the foundation on which they can build a sustainable future.”
