Vox Pop: Do you feel safe crossing the bridge?

Residents in Jukskei park raise concerns about the safety of bridge on Platina Street.

The bridge located near Platina and Juweel streets’ play park in Jukskei Park is near collapse. Recent heavy rains and flooding have worsened the damage. JRA and Joburg Water were at the bridge on March 8 to access the damage and remove waste gathered from the flood.

Fourways Review asked community members whether or not they felt safe crossing the bridge. This is what they had to say…

John Ndlovu (28): The bridge is damaged, and it’s not safe for us and our kids. Hence, we call out for help before it causes more damage.
Patrick Forbes (63): I choose to use [another bridge] which takes me more minutes than it should if I was using this one. I don’t want to use this bridge because I know this bridge is a problem, so I don’t want to risk my safety.
NKOSI NDLOVU (29): So far, I can say I feel safe but anything can happen at any time. This thing has been like this for over eight years now but I know they will fix it, so it is just a temporary thing.
Linda Mbuyisa (38): From what I see, it is not safe at all, especially at night because you won’t know if trees might fall on top of you.
