Nova Pioneer Paulshof learners were awarded for their excellent results achieved last year.
Teachers and parents celebrated the current Grade 7s who wrote their 2022 Cambridge Assessment Checkpoint exams. The exams comprised three core subjects – maths, science and English – written in Grade 6.
Each learner received a certificate and the top five were announced in each subject. The top learner in each subject received a trophy and the overall top learner was announced.
Dean of instruction and learning at the school Charmaine Thokoane said, “Every learner should be proud of their achievement. Our children, in all three core subjects, made growth from last year to this year. When we compare to the international average, we are slightly higher in the English subject. In science, we were slightly below but we made our biggest growth in maths.”
The school’s current Grade 6s will write their checkpoint exams later this year and Thokoane had some advice for them. “My message to them is to be dedicated to their learning, to own their learning. They need to be committed to the goals that they set for themselves. They should know that the teachers, the parents, and the school are here to support them in achieving [their goal] as they are not walking this journey alone.”
Top achievers in the core subjects were:
- English: Synthia Yang and Samara Naidoo
- Science: Ashmitha Gowda and Samrudhi Kumar
- Maths: Ashmitha Gowda.
The overall top learner was Ashmitha Gowda.
