One person dead and 21 others critically injured following accident in Lonehill

According to JMPD, a case of culpable homicide has been opened against the driver who fled the scene of the accident.

Emer-G-med has confirmed that a bakkie overturned resulting in one fatality. A 30-year-old  man succumbed to his injuries while nearly two dozen others were treated for injuries ranging from moderate to serious before being taken to nearby hospitals for further care.

21 people were in the bakkie.

Emer-G-Med medics attended a mass casualty collision on the M71 near the Jukskei River on March 7.

According to Emer-G-Med’s spokesperson Kyle van Reenen, 21 commuters have been left with critical injuries and one has unfortunately died on the scene.

All relevant authorities are present on scene.

According to the Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department (JMPD)’s spokesperson Xolani Fihla, only one vehicle was involved, and the cause of the accident has not yet been determined.  The driver of the vehicle fled the scene after the accident had occurred, no arrest has been made yet and a case of culpable homicide has been opened at Douglasdale Police Station for further investigation.
