Fourways High School teacher acknowledged for her efforts in the Fourways Main Reef Rotary Club’s youth exchange programme

Fourways High School geography teacher, Lexi Katsivalis has also been part of the student exchange programme when she got to visit Germany in 2014 for a year.

A Fourways High School geography teacher by day and learner exchange programme facilitator by night would accurately describe this Fourways Main Reef Rotary Club volunteer, Lexi Katsivalis.

The Rotary Youth Exchange programme facilitates international interchanges between learners that consist of either a short-term programme of six weeks or a long-term of a full year. The programme is facilitated by Pineslopes resident, Lexi Katsivalis.

Katsivalis heads the youth exchange programme for Fourways Rotary and was once part of the programme when she was in school and wanted to give back to the cause she was involved in. In 2014, she had been a part of the youth exchange programme when she got to visit Germany for a year, and she described it as an amazing experience.
“It’s an international network of good faith where we send someone overseas, and welcome a learner to our shores,” she said talking about what the exchange programme is about.
“I’m involved as an adult because I went as a child. I went to Germany, but the learner we exchanged with was from Taiwan. This is my way of giving back to the club. Travelling then was the best year of my life, and I would have 100% done it again. I want to make sure another learner gets to experience that feeling as well.”

The Fourways Main Reef Rotary Club recently had four of its youth members go to different countries as a part of the programme. Three of them, Hannah Charles, Rebecca Arthur and Claire Green returned to give a presentation of their time out of South Africa to their fellow Rotarians. Merlina Frugoni from Argentina came for her exchange programme to be hosted at Hannah’s house with her family.
Attendees at the recent presentation got to understand more of the exchange programme from the learners and also extended their deepest appreciation that Katsivalis and her delegation had put into the facilitation of the programme.
