Two learners at Dainfern College set new heights for their remarkable achievements in achieving a red and white blazer.
In the school’s Silver Jubilee year, there was the introduction of the white blazer. This is to recognise and reward learners who specialise in one pillar in the school. To achieve this blazer, learners must achieve full colours or honours level in three different codes under one pillar. This means three sports, three cultural or three service activities.
In the inaugural year, two learners achieved the cultural honours blazer, and six learners achieved the sports honours blazer. These achievements at the highest level certainly caused celebration at the college.
Current head girl at the school Kate Weir was awarded her white blazer for cultural honours. She had achieved national dance colours, honours for music and full colours for performing arts. As she also was awarded honours for academics and full colours for leadership and tennis, Kate is also the recipient of the red blazer Jeff du Toit is another learner who achieved his red and white blazer.
He received the former in 2021, having achieved honours for public speaking, full colours for academics and provincial powerlifting colours. Now in Grade 12, Jeff also earned full colours for athletics and rugby and was then able to receive his white blazer for sports honours.
Dainfern College prides itself on its holistic approach to education and with its motto being ‘celebrate’, the school seeks every opportunity to recognise and reward the achievements of the learners.
This year, nine high school learners have achieved the highest honour the college can bestow – the red blazer. To qualify, learners must have achieved either full colours or honours in at least three of the five pillars of a Dainfern College education in sports, academics, culture, service and leadership all while having exemplary conduct and epitomising the values of the school.
