Two Douglasdale police officers awarded in recent police district awards

Returning for the first time since Covid-19 regulations, members of the Douglasdale Police Station and Community Policing Forum walked away with a number of certificates and trophies.

Douglasdale Police Station’s station commander, Brigadier Veeshani Arikum congratulated officers who received awards in the recent South African Police Services Johannesburg District Annual Excellence Awards Ceremony.

Officers and members of the Community Policing Forum (CPF) in Douglasdale attended the prestigious event that saw close to 43 stations competing for an abundance of awards.
Among the winners at the awards were Sergeant Nicholus Mokwena who won in the category Man of the Year for 2021/2022 which is a category of a Prestigious Honour Award. Another notable winner of the local station was Colonel Mmemeng Mathakgala in the overall category Detective Employee of the Year for levels eight to 12.
Arikum also mentioned her detective team were nominated first runner-ups for the best detective team, and another Sergeant was nominated as first runner-up for the best detective in levels five to seven.

“The officers and teams winning shows that there is dedication and commitment from the members of the station and that they do go the extra mile and do strive to perform at their best. The awards weren’t able to take place previously because of Covid, but now they have been reinitiated and will be an ongoing event for years to come,” said Brigadier Arikum.
Chairperson of the Douglasdale CPF, Lizzy Mabena who was also present at the awards ceremony honoured the entire Douglasdale CPF committee members as they had received the overall award for CPF of the Year 2021/2022. The award was in the category of Johannesburg District Commissioner’s Awards.

“As your chairperson, it gives me great pride and honour to serve amongst women and men who give freely of their time and resources to partner with the police to ensure the safety and security of their community. I couldn’t think of a more deserving team to be honoured and recognized for their unbelievable and unshaken sense of self-giving. Well done Douglasdale Station and well done to our Station Commander, Brigadier Arikum for heading a Well Recognized and Deserving Team,” Mabena concluded.
