Paulshof karaoke sessions are thanks to a local who wants to give back

Karaoke and music sessions with a giving twist is the core of a local singer who brings people together with music every Thursday evening in Paulshof.

A Paulshof pub becomes a musical and karaoke filled wonderland every Thursday thanks to a local karaoke host and singer.

Sade Anderson has been in the entertainment industry as a performer for 10 years and has hosted karaoke events throughout the city. Her singing path started when a band from Cape Town came to her church and heard her singing in 2012, and that had a ripple effect on her career. “I started doing gigs with them and got to perform in Rosebank. I had made good relationships with the musicians I met there, and got to sing back up for singers,” she said.

“I sang at Sun City from 2017 to 2020 and built up a very good clientele singing six nights a week. That was how I got into karaoke as it was one of the requirements and it was something I had never done before. I found that I was really great at it.”
Anderson has been running Thursday night Karaoke Sessions at Off the Grid since the height of Covid-19 in 2020. Since moving back to Johannesburg, she began singing at the pub on Sundays and was given the opportunity to bring karaoke to Paulshof. “I didn’t want to have normal karaoke sessions. I love my events to have a cause and get involved. On June 16, we had the chance to give back to a local NPO with a sanitary pad drive.

“I was raised in the church where we do food and clothing drives, so I’m used to doing things like this and wanted to bring it into this part of my career. It was a proud moment for those who came out to karaoke to see that it’s being done with a difference.”
Anderson mentioned the strength that music has to bring people together and enjoy themselves and added that karaoke is not for people who can sing, but for those who love to sing. She has added her passion for bringing communities joy through singing and music.

“I’ll be taking entertainment to the cancer spaces and giving back to the children and women going through chemo. I’ve also partnered with Warriors with a Purpose, and at the end of October I’ll be doing a cancer colour run where I’ll be providing entertainment pro bono,” she concluded.
