Diepsloot police arrested a 37-year-old man in Ext 5 on October 10 for murder after he attempted to run from being caught.
The murder took place on October 9. The suspect allegedly assaulted a man after an argument at a tavern, according to a spokesperson for the Diepsloot Police Station Captain Tinyiko Mathebula.
“According to eyewitnesses, the suspect repeatedly bumped the deceased’s head against the pavement leaving him unconscious. The victim was later certified dead by emergency personnel,” he said.
“After learning that the victim had passed on, the suspect allegedly attempted to flee. An informant alerted the police about the suspect’s plan to escape. The police acted swiftly and caught the suspect before fleeing.”
The suspect was then arrested and charged with murder and is due to appear in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court.
