Burgler cat becomes man’s best friend

Cat owner Micheal Sandon writes:

Cooked chicken prepared for a Glenferness resident’s Alsatians was stolen every day, until one day…
Owner Michael Sand caught the culprit in the act. But it wasn’t a human, it was a burglar cat who shot away in a graceful escape.

The following day, the incident was repeated but Michael was allowed only to get near touching distance before the feline burglar escaped.
But after the incident was repeated each day, only on the 10th day the cat named Nora allowed Michael to pet her.

Thereafter, Nora never left the property, she rubbed her head against the furniture in all rooms and Michael’s driver, Rosinah, remarked, ‘she is now at home’ and Nora became Michael’s best friend.

Each day, over the last six years Nora would wait for hours for Michael to go to the bedroom. Then Nora would show her appreciation by kneading on a towel. Nora became very spoilt. “As a treat,” said Michael, “We would open a tin of tuna which she loved. Then an hour later Nora would reappear meowing and I would give her the rest of the tuna, but she refused to eat it. So I opened up a new tin and [she] gulped it down immediately.” Fussy cat.

Nora loved to show off – like a child saying ‘dad, watch me’ and then like lightening, she would climb up the highest point of a tall tree, onto a roof, down again and say, (or as if to say) ‘I bet you can’t do that.’
Tragically on Wednesday, September 21 Nora was seen relaxing near a pet horse near the stables but didn’t return as she had been doing over the last six years.

“I looked for her all over the six-acre property until 05:00 Thursday morning and we continued looking in the for the last nine days. Flyers offering a reward were posted on all houses on Lachlan, Duncan and Chatan roads. WhatsApp notices were circulated with the Glenferness Group.

“I believe that Nora may have burgled another house or followed a white male cat who used to visit Nora to inside the owner’s house and the owner closed the doors saying, ‘What a beautiful cat, maybe lost, let’s keep her safely locked in the house’. This is more a probability than a possibility, especially if the owner (and staff member) have no knowledge that Nora has a home which she loves and a loving dad and friends.”
The reward is now being increased to R10 000. With a no questions asked, confidentiality guarantee. If you have any knowledge of where Nora is, please contact Michael on 082 887 6121 (Phone or WhatsApp).
