Diepsloot police sergeant’s investigative work applauded for securing life sentence

Sergeant Rudzani Ramukhuvhathi from Diepsloot Police Station is commended for his efforts in bringing justice to two victims.

Diepsloot police commended the work of Sergeant Rudzani Ramukhuvhathi who is a part of the SAPS Diepsloot Trio Task Team for securing a life sentence for Mandulo Moyo (27) for crimes committed in 2017.

Moyo was sentenced on September 12 after being found guilty of house robbery and rape.
Two suspects, who are still at large, and Moyo broke into a house in Diepsloot Ext 12 in March 2017. The spokesperson for the station, Captain Tinyiko Mathebula said a female victim was robbed of her belongings. She was then assaulted with bricks by the three men and was left unconscious and raped.

“A month later, Moyo was arrested soon after allegedly committing another house robbery and rape. The police who were in the vicinity when the crime was being committed managed to apprehend Moyo,” he said.

Ramukhuvhathi ensured medical evidence was collected at the crime scenes which led to an extremely tight case against Moyo. DNA evidence successfully linked him to the crime he previously committed.
Five years after the crimes had been committed, Moyo was sent to prison for life.

Ramukhuvhathi described the moment as one of the proudest in his career.
“I hope that this hefty sentence will send a stern warning to would-be perpetrators and will somehow bring closure to the victims,” he said.
