“A lot of our grandparents play a big role in the lives of our little ones and have been with them from when they were a baby up until now. It’s a day where we and our little ones can show appreciation to them and what role they play in their lives,” she said.

“We enjoy having this day in September. Grandparents come with a lot of wisdom and experience, and with that comes a lot of expertise in planting. We love that because they can come to the school, enjoy a planting activity with their little ones. They will have a few their grandparents at the school.”

Durrant said with the school’s break-in events due to Covid restrictions, it is easy to forget how many family members, including grandparents will join in the day for the learners. “We had a few learners whose grandparents couldn’t make it today, so those learners still took part in the planting activities with the teachers and teachers’ assistants.
