Beaulieu hockey team dedicate successful season to late coach

The Beaulieu Hockey Academy premier men’s side beat Wanderers to win the Southern Gauteng Hockey Association outdoor league final 4–0.

Beaulieu Hockey Academy’s first men’s team added the Southern Gauteng Hockey Association title to their trophy cabinet.

Beaulieu faced old foes Wanderers Hockey Club at Randburg Astro and made it another win over their rivals after beating them in the final of the Belgotex Elite Club Challenge in KwaZulu-Natal.
In the Southern’s final, Beaulieu kept a clean sheet to win 4–0 with goals from Dalpiarro Langford, Reza Rosenberg, Rusten Abrahams and Melrick Maddocks.

Captain of the champions Jesse Salo said the team’s main goal from the start of the season was to win the league since they narrowly lost out last year.

“Our goal was always clear from the beginning, everyone was of the same mindset and desire to win the league. We did quite well this season and the league was our top priority. We wanted to bring the title home this season.
“This is our first time winning the league, it makes victory extra special for us. Wanderers is a dangerous team with a lot of experience. They have dominated the league for a long time. To play them in the final and score four team goals was amazing,” he told Fourways Review.

“The clean sheet was the cherry on top. They worked as a unit and everyone played their part. It’s something we have been working towards for a while so it was nice to get it in the final against a great side.”
He complimented his side for an outstanding job this season and was thankful for the experience of Julian Hykes, Olympian Rusten Abrahams, Reza Rosenberg, and Gerald Mpopo.

Salo thanked all those who supported the team during their successful season, and that this league win, in addition to the other trophies won this season, were for their late coach Allistar Fredericks.
“We have to give it back to the Fredericks family for supporting us throughout the league. He [Fredericks] had always driven us and pushed us to be the best we can be. He instilled the vision of us winning the league and everyone bought into it.

“He brought this family together and created this brotherhood. The title is dedicated to him and we’re sure he is smiling down on us.”
