Diepsloot suspect remanded in custody for possession of an unlicensed firearm

The crime took place two days before the suspect was arrested by Diepsloot police.

After appearing in the Randburg Magistrate’s Court on August 29, Diepsloot suspect Mugwena Rembuluwani (30) was remanded in custody.

In the early hours of August 27, police on patrol duties near HeronBridge College spotted an overturned vehicle along the road.
Police spokesperson Captain Tinyiko Mathebula said the officers investigated closer to find out what happened, and it was then that a man appeared and claimed to be the owner of the vehicle.
“One officer allegedly spotted a firearm on the man’s waist. He was then asked to produce a licence for possessing a firearm and failed to do so.

“He was subsequently arrested and charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. The suspect has since appeared in court and was remanded in custody.”
Mathebula added that community members are encouraged to partner with police in the continuous fight against crime, and curbing the spread of illegal firearms. They can contact the Crime Stop number on 08600 10111 or send tip-offs on MySAPS app which can be downloaded on any smartphone.
