Fourways Review intern shares her internship experience

Angela Trzeciak shares her farewell message and experience as an intern for the Fourways Review.

Angela Trzeciak, a journalist intern outlines her experience for the six months she spent at the Fourways Review.

I am a final year journalism student from Tshwane University of Technology who recently got the wonderful opportunity to work for the Fourways Review as part of my internship for my course.

I arrived here very excited and very nervous as this was my first time working. I was nervous because I didn’t know what to expect from this experience but excited for the journey ahead because I knew that I would gain a lot when I leave. It took me a while to get used to having to wake up early and prepare myself, but as my dad says, ‘aller Anfang ist schwer’ which translates to all beginnings are hard.

I was worried when I came to the newspaper because I am more interested in the broadcast side of journalism and I find speaking easier than writing, especially because I overthink when I write and end up getting thrown off in the process. However, things have improved and that is all thanks to the subeditors in the newsroom who had me sit down with them and showed me the ropes.

Angela Trzeciak is an aspiring journalist.

I am very grateful to the community of Fourways and surrounding areas for their hospitality. The kindness and willingness to always help has awed me and I will forever be grateful. I have met so many people during this time and with some of whom I have created good relationships with. Thank you to all the community members for allowing me to tell their stories to the rest of South Africa.

I am walking away from this experience more confident with my abilities and with new and better skills than before. My photography skills have also really improved which I am very proud of because I had little experience with cameras and taking photos.

I would like to express my gratitude to my colleagues Nduduzo Nxumalo and Khomotso Makgabutlane who have welcomed me with open arms and have assisted me along the way. I also want to thank my mentor and editor Aimee McGill who has really pushed me to do better and improve myself.
Now that my journey here has ended, I am looking forward to the next step that life has to offer me.
