Top academic performer hopes to study medicine after school

Curro Academy Riverside's top achiever hopes to study medicine at the University of Cape Town.

The top-achieving Grade 12 learner from Curro Academy Riverside has her sights set on a bright future.

Boiphelo Mohale has an impressive overall average and says her favourite subjects are life science, geography and maths. Boiphelo said she feels overwhelmed about being the top achiever in her school but added that it brings her joy to see her school goals being realised.

The youngster hopes to study medicine at the University of Cape Town. “I choose medicine because I feel like my heart’s passion is to heal and help people, be it through medicine, mental or emotional wellness,” she said.

Boiphelo has a tough daily routine. She wakes up at 04:30 to prepare for school which finishes at 15:00. After school, she prepares for her night-time study routine. “I set a goal to study at least eight hours a day, broken up in segments throughout my day.

“In my free time, I enjoy reading, stretching my creative muscle by creating TikTok videos of my love for dancing.”
She is inspired by singer, actress, presenter and writer Tracey Ellis-Ross and business mogul and software developer Bill Gates.

The start achiever shared some of her study tips:

  • Use active recall
  • Use keywords
  • Draw diagrams
  • Do mind maps
  • Summarise textbook knowledge into your notes
  • Refer back to past exam papers.
