APC leader calls for Eskom’s executives and minister of Public Enterprise to be relieved from their duties

Godi said Eskom has been degenerating in its capacity to supply reliable power because of distorted political oversite and incompetent management with ulterior motives.

Members of the African People’s Movement marched to Eskom’s headquarters to hand over a memorandum of demands to the power utility’s management on July 13.

This follows on the heels of the African National Congress Youth League who also handed a memorandum of demands to Eskom on July 1, calling for the power utility’s CEO André de Ruyter to step down after Eskom had announced Stage 6 load-shedding would be implemented.

President of ACP and former chairperson of the Standing Committee on Public Accounts in parliament, Themba Godi said South Africans could no longer bear the pain brought about by load-shedding due to management’s incompetence at the utility.

Speaking outside Megawatt Park in Sunninghill, Godi said Eskom had been degenerating its capacity to supply reliable power because of distorted political oversite and incompetent management with ulterior motives.

“We are here to demand an end to reckless implementation of the renewable energy policy which sees a premature destruction of the coal-fired power stations.”

He also called for Eskom’s board of directors and management including the Minister of Public Enterprise Pravin Gordhan to be relieved of their duties.
“Eskom continues to deteriorate under the watch of minister Gordhan, De Ruyter and Eskom’s COO Jan Oberholzer. These individuals are the immediate faces of sabotage at Eskom and chief implementers of a diabolical policy to privatise the power utility. They must go with their treasonous policy they so enthusiastically want to implement.”

Godi told Eskom’s Daphne Mokwena who accepted the memorandum that they were expecting a response from the utility by August 15.
