Accused appears before Randburg Magistrate’s Court for possession of unlicensed firearm and ammunition

According to the station spokesperson, Station Commander Brigadier Koena Moichela commended the police for their swift reaction to the complaint and subsequent arrest.

A 51-year-old suspect was remanded in custody after he briefly appeared before the Randburg Magistrate’s Court on July 5.

David Mogale from Diepsloot Ext 4 was arrested at his home on July 3 for possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.

Diepsloot Police Station spokesperson, Captain Tinyiko Mathebula said the accused allegedly threatened his wife with a firearm following an argument between them.

Mathebula said the victim reported the matter to the police. Officers then proceeded to the accused’s address. “On arrival, a search was conducted and a firearm was allegedly found hidden in the house yard. When asked to produce a licence for possessing a firearm, the suspect failed to do so and was subsequently arrested and charged with possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. The suspect was remanded in custody.”

He added that Station Commander Brigadier Koena Moichela commended the police for their swift reaction to the complaint and subsequent arrest of the accused.

“The station commander has urged all members at the station to act swiftly when attending to GBV complaints and to treat the victims with respect and dignity,” Mathebula said.
