WATCH: ANC Youth League fed-up with Eskom

The coordinator of the ANCYL threatens to take the matter to parliament if Eskom CEO André de Ruyter is not removed.

Members of the African National Congress Youth League (ANCYL) are currently protesting outside Eskom’s headquarters at Megawatt Park in Sunninghill on July 01.

The reason for this is to hand over a memorandum of demands to the utility’s management. This follows after Eskom announced stage 6 of load-shedding earlier this week which saw the country plunged into darkness.

The group is singing struggle songs and chanting political slogans calling for the power utility’s CEO, André de Ruyter to step down.

Coordinator of the ANCYL in Tswane, Fortune Mathabatha said the march was just the beginning of mass action to remove De Ruyter from his position.

“This is just the beginning of a national mass action that we will lead to have De Ruyter removed as CEO of Eskom. We are going to mobilise members of the civil society to join us in this cause. We want de Ruyter and his cabal gone.”

He added that if de Ruyter is not removed they will take the matter to parliament.

There is high police visibility.
