Who prints the Fourways Review?
Caxton Printers in Industria West employ many members of the community.
On June 8, Caxton journalists visited Caxton Printers in Industria West.
During the visit, we learnt the printing process of our newspapers. The printers employs hundreds of people which empowers the community and reduces unemployment. Unfortunately, during the lockdown of Covid-19, the printers had to reduce the number of employees and publications printed.
“We had state-of-the-art machines but we decided no, let’s give the people a chance to show that they can do better than the machines,” said Riaan Kruger, the training and maintenance manager for Caxton Printers.
All our local publications such as Fourways Review, Rosebank Killarney Gazette and Randburg Sun are printed there. Advertising inserts of the newspapers are also printed there.
The printing process involves the use of four colours, CMYK which stands for cyan, magenta, yellow and black. K is used to represent black because it could be confused with blue. The process starts in the pre-pressed department where the factory receives the digital copy of the newspaper from the different publications and begins the process.
At the end of the process, thousands of newspapers are distributed to households free of charge. More than 37 000 Fourways Review newspapers are distributed on a weekly basis.
