Dainfern College learners put their best foot forward in dance competition

Dainfern College’s Kraken house danced its way to victory in the interhouse dance competition for the first time since 2010.

Dainfern College’s inter-house dance competition featured many talented routines from learners.

The dance competition is a highlight on the school calendar each year. This year’s event, on May 25, was extra special as it was the first time it was held since 2019.

The school’s three houses – Griffin, Kraken and Phoenix – compete in a themed dance competition, with this year’s theme being: Dance through the Decades.

Digital media and communications officer at the school, Ashley van Aswegen said before the competition, houses brought energy to the school as they practised their routines late into the evenings.

On the night, each house delivered a colourful and thrilling performance covering a variety of dance genres.
The following learners received awards at the competition:

  • Best male dancer: Ross du Plessis (Phoenix)
  • Best female dancer: Indigo Wood (Kraken)
  • Best duet: Erin Tomlinson and Daniel Chipoyera (Phoenix)
  • Up-and-coming dancer: Gabriella Giannini (Griffin).

Kraken House was the winner and recipient of the 2022 interhouse dance trophy. The house last won the competition in 2010. Phoenix was the runner-up, followed by Griffin.
