Community celebrates Africa Day early in Paulshof
A number of well-known African songs were performed to get the crowd moving on a cold Saturday afternoon at Paulshof’s Off the Grid.
Community members braved the cold weather to have an early celebration of Africa Day at Off the Grid in Paulshof on May 21.
The afternoon and evening saw a number of attractions on offer for attendees, including live music by the band Les Fantastiques, a fashion show with clothing designed by Lelomo CMT’s Noma Mtombeni, traditional food and drinks. Well-known African songs were performed to get the crowd moving on the cold afternoon.
Founder of Lelomo CMT, based in Chartwell, Noma Mtombeni said there was an overwhelming response to the fabrics and outfits on display on the night.
“I wanted the models to look normal, and we had a few plus-sized models as well in the clothing because they do also struggle to find outfits. I like to tap into the part of the industry that people don’t or often avoid going into,” she said.
“There are some bright colours even though it’s winter. There is a mix of African print with modern wear since there is the thought that African print has to be traditional. This location was really great to showcase our designs as it is within our area.”
