Residents association happy with the job done to replace old asbestos water pipe in Lonehill

Environment manager at Lonehill Residents Association said newly installed water pipe will improve water supply in the area.

The environment manager at Lonehill Residents Association (LRA) Nadeem Abrahams said the residents association was happy with the job done to the newly installed water pipe on Dennis Road in Lonehill.

He said the newly installed water pipe will help bring an end to the problem of water outages as the result of constant water pipe bursts in the area.

This was after a contractor commissioned by Johannesburg Water to replace the old asbestos water pipe in the area recently switched the water supply from the old pipe to the new, bigger pipe.

“The newly installed pipe will not only deliver cleaner, safer water to our residents but will also eliminate the constant pipe bursts and water interruptions that the residents have had to endure due to the failing frail old asbestos pipe that used to supply water in the area. We are grateful to the City and Johannesburg Water for this much- needed upgrade to our infrastructure,” Abrahams said.

Community liaison officer of the project Lita Jacobsen said, “Although we had some delays to finish this pipe replacement project because of Covid-19 cases I am grateful that no injuries were reported.

As someone who was appointed to be a link between the City, community and contractor, I am happy that residents of Lonehill will have uninterrupted water supply going forward.”
