Ward 96 councillor works with different community stakeholders to tackle service delivery isues

RIVERSIDE: Ward 96 councillor said issues such as potholes; water, power outages and blocked drainage system were among the top challenging issues in some parts of Ward 96.

Ward 96 councillor Rufus Maswazi said a number of community issues have been resolved during his first four months in office.

Maswazi was elected Ward 96 councillor in last year’s local government elections and took over from Sbusiso Mthembu who was the Ward 96 councillor from August 2016 to November 2021.

Maswazi said working hand-in-hand with various community stakeholders had made his job easier.

“My four first months in the office has been exciting, challenging and demanding. When I came into office, most residents did not know where to go to report their service delivery problems because most residents, especially in Riverside, were new.”

He said issues such as potholes, water and power outages, and blocked drainage systems were among the top challenging issues in some parts of the ward.

“Ward 96 has communities with different needs. The needs of Dainfern, Broadacres and Chartwell differ from the needs of Riverside, Thabo Mbeki informal settlement and others. We are working closely with different entities, residents associations and the business community to address challenges faced by our residents.”

Maswazi encouraged residents and community members to contact him at any time when faced with service delivery issues in their respective communities.
