Water pipe replacement project to help minimise water outages in ward 93 and surrounding areas

Ward councillor said the project finished on the March 30 and necessitated a pressure release valve replacement.

Ward 93 councillor Vino Reddy has thanked residents of his ward for their patience and understanding during the water pipe replacement project in the area.

Reddy said, “Joburg Water had undertaken a project to replace the old asbestos cement pipes in Fourways since April 2021 to alleviate a number of burst pipes and the frequency with which they were constantly occurring and affecting residents.”

He said the project was completed in March this year and also necessitated a pressure release valve replacement.

“As there were two projects being carried out simultaneously, water was constantly shut off at the Bryanston Reservoir. The second job was the replacement of the gate valve at Troupant Street in Magaliessig which would restore water pressure to the residents of Lonehill.
“I would like to thank the residents of the Fourways area, most impacted by this, for their patience and understanding as they’ve had to endure burst pipes with their homes being flooded.”

He added that the water bursts had resulted in pavements having to be dug up outside of people’s homes in the past year.

“I am hopeful that once the contractors are finished closing the holes, repairing the roads, and reinstating driveways residents will be happy with the outcome.”
