Holiday fun day at Diepsloot Park

DIEPSLOOT –The sports programme accomodates learners during the school holiday.

Diepsloot Mall’s holiday sports programme held its fun match day at Diepsloot Park on March 24.
The children who attended had a productive day and enjoyed themselves while competing against each other.

The holiday programme is an initiative that was started in 2016 by Capital Land, a property asset management company that owns Diepsloot Mall, and Ngaoko Ramolesana.

Ramolesana, who is the coordinator of the programme, said he felt that it was important for the community of Diepsloot to have such programmes because many children were left at home unsupervised during the day when their parents have gone to work.

The programme was unable to take all children who wanted to participate as it was only able to accommodate 120 youngsters from the ages of seven to 16 at present due to financial restrictions.
The programme takes place over four days, and in the first two days, the children were coached in their respective sports by 10 coaches. On the last two days, the children are split into teams and they play against each other.

The programme offers training in netball and soccer, and there is also a skills development initiative.

Ramolesana hoped to get more support and sponsors so that they could extend the length of the programme and include more children.
