Local golfer wins final round in Steyn City Championship

A local estate welcomed golfers from around the world for the Steyn City Championship and DP World Tour over the long weekend.

The Steyn City Championship and DP World Tour that took place between March 17 and 20 saw Shaun Norris named the winner in a nail-biting final round.

Norris claimed his victory over fellow South African Dean Burmester in a tournament that has rooted Steyn City as a leader on the global golfing circuit. Steyn City shared equal glory in the tournament as it made its debut on the DP World Tour.

With it being the debut, Steyn City also welcomed media alongside players from around the world including Sky Sports, Fox Sports and The Golf Channel.
“What a place [Steyn City] is. I’ve been lucky enough to play here before. It’s a great golf course, and it’s grown in so well. It’s only eight years old and look at the condition of it for this tournament. The greens are just perfect,” said Burmester.

CEO of Steyn City Properties Giuseppe Plumari said it was an honour to host the golf tournament.
“I am extremely proud that we were able to rise to the occasion on an international stage. Since this was our debut in the tournament, and over four hundred million eyes were upon us, we really wanted to impress,” said Plumari.

Plumari and chief tournament business officer of the DP World Tour Ben Cowen thanked all those involved in making the tournament as successful as it was and hoped it would be hosted at the course again soon.

“The fact that many of the endorsements we have received following the tournament are also from overseas fans shows us that we are in the same league as international courses,” concluded Plumari.
