Daily Bread non-profit organisation to host fifth annual Miss Umoja pageant

FOURWAYS– McGinley urged members of the community member to support local talent with monetary donations to host the event.

In an effort to rope in young people into humanitarian projects and help them gain self-confidence, Daily Bread non-profit organisation will host its fifth Miss Umoja pageant to celebrate young women in the community.

The much anticipated annual event will be held at Leaping Frog Shopping Centre on December 11 where six young beauty queens from different parts of Johannesburg North will battle IT OUT to be crowned Miss Umoja 2021.

The six are Snethemba Mavuso, Mbalenhle Ndlovu, Phumudzo Malemo, Rachel Mchikoma, Nhia Muriuki and Bridget Phiri.
Chairperson and founder of Daily Bread non-profit organisation, Charmaine McGinley said the event was part of their youth development programmes.

“Our aim is to change the status quo about beauty pageants. When selecting participants, we don’t look at the [beauty] as is always the case. Our aim is to inculcate self-confidence and work with these young girls in the communities. The winner does not only become the face of the organisation but becomes an ambassador of the community,” she said.

McGinley asked community members for their support.

“We appeal to members of the community and business people to help us with prizes for the pageant. We also need 10 white branded T-shirts that our contestants will wear on the day of the event. We do all this to uplift our communities in disadvantaged areas that we work with on a daily basis.”
