Police arrest 900 suspects amid O Kae Molao operations

DIEPSLOOT – Police have vowed to ensure the safety of communities in continuing the multidisciplinary operations.


Recent O Kae Molao operations led to the arrest of more than 900 suspects throughout the province.

Districts, including Diepsloot, conducted roadblocks and stop-and-searches conducted on October 14 with the focus on the transportation of illegal goods, illegal firearms and drugs. During the operation, illegal liquor outlets were closed down and about 4 568 litres of liquor confiscated. Drugs such as cocaine, heroin, crystal meth and kat were also seized. A minibus taxi with a tampered engine was impounded.

Provincial spokesperson for the police, Colonel Dimakatso Sello said the multidisciplinary operation was aimed at restoring law and order in the province. “Tracing of wanted suspects and absconded parolees was also done by SAPS detectives and Department of Correctional Services,” she said.

O Kae Molao, social crime campaigns were also conducted at different places to address issues of gender-based violence and femicide as it is one of the SAPS’s priority key areas.”

Provincial Commissioner for Gauteng, Lieutenant General Elias Mawela was at the operation in Diepsloot. During his walkabout in one of the informal settlements, he reassured the public that police would continue with these types of operations to ensure communities were safe. “We appreciate external stakeholders who are available at all times to assist in the fight against crime,” he said.
