Douglasdale resident and 2021 Mrs South Africa hopeful host fundraising event to fight animal cancer

DOUGLADALE– Judnick-Wilson said the event was aimed at raising funds for the Southern Africa Animal Cancer Association (SAACA) non-profit organisation.

Jo Judnick-Wilson from Dougladale embarked on a mission to save animals and help a non-profit organisation.
The Mrs South Africa 2021 finalist held a fundraising event, Doggy’s Day, at Walkhaven Dog Park on October 10.

The event was aimed at raising funds for the Southern Africa Animal Cancer Association (Saaca). This is a non-profit organisation that focuses on educating the public about cancer in animals and the sterilization of dogs in rural areas.

“The Doggy’s Day event was aimed at getting families and their pups outdoors, to enjoy the Joburg weather and the abundance of what our city has to offer. We had over 30 pet market stalls that joined the day to create an energetic and uplifting occasion.
“Through a raffle, a fun dog show and donations, just over R13 000 was raised for Saaca which was founded by Munnik Marais to create awareness of cancer in animals and encourage treatment and research,” she said.

Judnick-Wilson thanked members of the public who came out in their numbers to support the initiative. She said Saaca recently teamed up with the University of Pretoria’s faculty of veterinary science to establish an oncology centre for research in animals.

“Successful initiatives such as these can make a difference and I would like to thank the community for supporting the fundraising efforts, the stall owners for bringing their enthusiasm and positivity, as well as all the behind the scenes friends, family and supporters who teamed up together to raise funds and awareness for Saaca.”
