Dainfern residents participate in the Hollard Dare Devil 5km run to raise awareness about prostate cancer

DAINFERN– Lindeque who participated in the run for a good said the event play a very important role in a fight against cancer.

In their quest to raise awareness about male cancer, specifically prostate cancer, a group of men from Dainfern braved the scorching sun on October 15 to participate in the Hollard Dare Devil 5km run wearing only speedos at Dainfern Golf Estate.

The annual run is aimed at encouraging men of all ages, shapes and sizes to run 5km through peak hour traffic in an effort to raise awareness of the scourge of male cancer in South Africa.

Brent Lindeque, who participated in the run for a good cause, said the event plays a very important role in the fight against cancer.

“A lot of time men find it difficult to be vulnerable. We had 10 men participating in the run, wearing speedos in the presence of scores of residents who came out in their numbers to cheer for us. The event gives men an opportunity to speak about male cancer and contribute toward raising funds to fight the scourge of cancer and raise awareness about male cancer in particular.”

Lindeque encouraged men to overcome their fears and test for cancer before it is too late.

“The act of stripping down to nothing but a speedo is not only challenging for runners but also challenges stereotypes about male cancer, in the interests of starting conversations about understanding and lowering cancer risk, and encouraging early testing for prostate cancer. I encourage men across the board to start having conversations about cancer and go for tests. I lost my aunt when was very young because of cancer and I don’t want to see others going through what I went through.”
