Miss SA, ‘Your voice matters, be yourself’

PAULSHOF – Miss SA 2020, Shudufhadzo Musida spoke to the girls at St Peter’s Girls Prep on how it was important to find your voice and go where you are wanted.

Learners at St Peter’s Girls Prep welcomed Miss South Africa 2020, Shudufhadzo Musida for a reading of her book.

On October 8, the learners listened to extracts of Musida’s book, Shudu Finds Her Magic which is story of her childhood and how she overcame bullying and found her voice to become Miss South Africa.

At the end of the reading, learners were encouraged to share what they had learnt from her story and ask her questions. Comments from the girls ranged from letting love embrace your differences to speaking up in a crowded room.

“The first time I used my voice was when I entered Miss South Africa. I knew then that what I had to say was important. Most of the time, women are silenced. Your voice matters. You just have to be yourself,” Musida said.

She added that from the experience of being bullied in her younger years, she realised she was perfect the way she was.

“I’m always looking for diversity and multicultural role-models for the girls. We are looking at influential women in our country, and she is absolutely amazing,” Van Rooyen said.

She added, “I rely on Penguin Books to have influential speakers to come and talk to the girls, so we will definitely be having something like this again.”
