Orange Grove artists help bring Mzansi Ballet power to The Queen Show

ORANGE GROVE – Orange Grove residents Michael and Angela Revie, and Molly Stubbs are part of the Mzansi Ballet team which will perform at the Fourways Mall from October 8 to 17.

Orange Grove couple Michael and Angela Revie have choreographed the upcoming performance of The Queen Show, beginning Friday evening and being showcased at Fourways Mall.

The couple, internationally-acclaimed choreographers, will also dance in the show.
Michael has been a star dancer in South Africa for several years and has danced with world ballet companies, such as Zurich Ballet and Birmingham Royal Ballet. In South Africa, he is known for his technique and virtuosity. Talented local ballerina Molly Stubbs, also from Orange Grove, is also one of the talented performers who will star in the performance.

The three Orange Grove residents are part of Mzansi Ballet, a ballet company that aims to bring ballet to the people, founded by Mzansi Ballet director Dirk Badenhorst. Badenhorst said he and his team believed in never giving up. “Covid-19 has meant adapting. During the hard lockdown, we trained online and in our homes – and we have performed in new venues, in unfamiliar environments. From this weekend, until October 17, we will perform at a shopping mall. This is a first-ever for us.”

While the pandemic had challenged the group of dancers, Badenhorst said it had also presented numerous opportunities. He recently launched an exclusive app, ArtOfLife, which allows community members to book online for shows. This is now available for download from Google Play Store.

“Our relatively small team of dancers has allowed us to be adaptable,” he said. “The upcoming show is just an example of what can happen if one is committed and keeps focused on one’s passion.”

Speaking on behalf of Fourways Mall, head of marketing Maria Varfis said, “Fourways Mall is so proud to be part of this innovative and passion-filled show. During the lockdown, the mall committed itself to support arts and artists by offering a platform for dancers to do what they love most.”

Mzansi Ballet Studio also has its training studio at the mall.

The production of The Queen Show will run from October 8 to 17 in Fourways Mall’s promotions court. Tickets are available at www.tixsa.co.za or through the ArtOfLife app.
