Miss Umoja 2020 ready to hand over her crown to the next winner

FOURWAYS – Being part of the Daily Bread has taught Boitumelo Adams the importance of helping those in need.

Miss Umoja 2020 is adamant that being part of the non-profit organisation, Daily Bread, for the past 10 months helped her learn the importance of helping others, especially those who have little to survive.

The 16-year-old Boitumelo Angela Adams was crowned as the Daily Bread’s fourth Miss Umoja beauty pageant in November last year. Boitumelo will hand over her crown to the new winner when the organisation hosts a 2021 beauty pageant event later this year.

She said being part of the organisation allowed her to meet and interact with many people on different levels.
“It has also taught me the importance and power of giving to help those in need. We visited different communities to do the work of the organisation, feeding and restoring hope to those in need,” she said.
She added that she witnessed people’s lives being transformed through the charity work she has been doing in communities like Msawawa informal settlement, Alexandra and Barbeque Downs among other areas.
The Grade 11 learner at Meridian Cosmo City will continue to work with the organisation and be part of
the fight against hunger.

Boitumelo said she would also encourage other young girls in her community to fight for their dreams. She said, “I’ve also learned that it is not your background or your family situation that will determine your future but using every opportunity presented before you.”

She added, “The opportunity I got from Daily Bread to become the face of the organisation helped me realise that everything is possible if you believe in your dreams.”
Boitumelo said she would use all the lessons learned as stepping stones in her journey to become Miss SA one day.

She urged young people to become agents of change in their communities. “Young people have the power to change the future. We should never stop fighting for what we want to become in life.”
