A 30-year-old convicted offender accused of killing a female warden at Leeuwkop Correctional Service Centre earlier this month, Nigel Marais, briefly appeared in Alexandra Magistrate’s Court on August 18.
National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) spokesperson Phindile Mjonondwane said the case was postponed to August 26 for further investigation. “A convicted offender, Nigel Marais (30), appeared in the Alexandra Magistrate’s Court on August 18 for the murder of a correctional officer at the Leeuwkop Correctional Centre. The case emanates from the discovery of Eunice Moloko’s lifeless body on August 10 inside the female toilets at her place of employment.
“Marais was sentenced on a count of murder and another of attempted murder in November 2015 for an incident that happened in KwaZulu-Natal in 2014. He is currently serving 18 years’ imprisonment at the Leeuwkop Correctional Centre.”
