Diepsloot artist ready for album release

DIEPSLOOT – Set to release his third album, Maskandi artist Intungwelisha is ready to have the world hear his music.

A Diepsloot-based maskandi artist will be releasing his album at the end of September called The Long Distance, hoping to set the music scene ablaze.

KwaZulu-Natal-born Skhumbuzo Khumalo, known better by his stage name Intungwelisha, has been on music since the age of 16 when he released his first album called Umshefezo [the movement]. “The album had nine songs and was released in 2011. Since it was my first album, it didn’t do too well because of promotional and management issues.”

Khumalo first got into the maskandi genre at the age of 13 as he had a huge interest in it. He emphasised that his main reason for choosing the genre was due to listening to it from a young age. “It’s because of the culture. Maskandi is our cultural music, we grew up listening to maskandi music more than any other genre. I make my music for everyone, young and old.”
Khumalo moved to Diepsloot to pursue his music career in early 2015. He said it took him another two years to get a proper studio to start recording.

“In 2017 I got the studio to start recording my music. I then released my next album named Umphefumulo Ongenacala [an innocent soul]. This one definitely boosted my career with a few copies sold.”

Between 2017 and 2020, Khumalo had not released any new albums or songs. After the Covid-19 pandemic came to the country and resulted in a nationwide lockdown in March last year, he released an awareness song called iCorona.

“After struggling with management in my career, I finally found a management and marketing team to help me with my music – The Grind Entertainment.”
Khumalo encouraged people in the industry is to ‘keep on trying’. “It was very hard to face the lockdown, but now we are getting used to it so everything is under control. Right now the new album is on the way. Long Distance was recorded at Injebomvu Studios.”

He concluded, “My wish is to work with many artists from different genres from time to time.”The album Long Distance will be available on iTunes, YouTube and Tidal.
