William Nicol and Stone River Boulevard traffic light not fixed for six weeks

DAINFERN– Mthembu said the City has completely failed to fix the traffic lights after six weeks being reported including almost daily accident happening in that traffic lights.

Ward 96 councillor Sbusiso Mthembu has described the City’s failure to fix malfunctioning traffic lights on William Nicol Drive as poor service delivery to the Dainfern community.

This was after local residents and Mthembu’s attempts failed to have the traffic light fixed at the busy intersection of William Nicol Drive and Stone River Boulevard.

“The City has completely failed to fix the traffic lights after six weeks of being reported ,including almost daily accidents happening at the traffic lights. One entity sends me to the other, no one is taking responsibility to resolve the problem that inconveniences motorists every day in the area,” he claimed.

Mthembu said he reported the matter to both JRA and City Power but alleged neither of the utilities have responded to the issue.

“We’ve repeatedly reported the problem to the entities. JRA said if a traffic light is vandalised or flashing it is their responsibility to fix it.

“The Dainfern traffic lights are not flashing nor vandalised. It seems like there is no power supply to the lights and therefore City Power is responsible to fix it but no one has ever come to check whether it’s a power problem.”

Spokesperson for City Power, Isaac Mangena said the City’s power utility would dispatch a team to restore power to the traffic lights.

“Power connection to traffic lights is indeed a responsibility of City Power. We will dispatch a team to the scene in order to check and reconnect power to the affected traffic lights,” Mangena added.
