The Society for Animals in Distress hosts golf day to raise funds
KYALAMI – Doorasamy said the aim of the event was to raise funds in order to lend a helping hand to owners of animals in distress who can’t afford to pay veterinary fees.
A non-profit organisation, The Society for Animals in Distress, hosted a golf day event at Kyalami Country Club on 4 June this year.
Dozens of golfers braved cold weather at one of Joburg’s beautiful and prudently preserved golf courses to showcase their skills for a good cause. The chairperson of the organisation, Jesse Doorasamy, said the aim of the event was to raise funds to lend a helping hand to owners of animals who can’t afford to pay for their veterinary fees.
“The Society for Animals in Distress is an animal welfare organisation that has been in existence and offering free animal care for the past 63 years. We provide veterinary care for animals whose owners cannot afford it. To do all that, we rely on the generosity of corporate and individuals to support us with funds. Our organisation is 100 per cent donor funded,” Dooasamy said.
“We are hosting golf day in order to raise funds for our organisation. We invited and brought together people from different sectors who have passion for animals to play. Many people responded positively to our call and opened their hearts to support the work we do. We also want to raise awareness and educate people about animal welfare.”
He added that the organisation did not expect such a positive response. “We are shocked at the amount of support and cooperation from the public in general. We were not expecting such a response in tough times like the one our country and the world is going through because of Covid-19. We are very thankful to all participants who opened their hearts and wallets to make this day a success,” he concluded.
