Local school closes its doors end June

FOURWAYS– The board said the school will continue to support its learners throughout the current exam period and academic instruction with all instruction ceasing from 30 June onwards.

After years of service to the community, the Chartwell Country College board has taken a decision to discontinue its Cambridge instructional offering.

In a statement, the board said the school will continue to support its learners throughout the current exam period and academic instruction with all instruction ceasing from 30 June onwards.

“The school has taken steps to ensure that there will be no financial impact on learners transferring to other institutions. This includes refunding all fees paid in advance and refunding registration fees for 2021 where applicable. In addition, the school will charge no tuition for the month of June. Arrangements are underway for learners that are currently receiving financial assistance to continue to receive this assistance at an alternative institution.

“Of the 44 impacted learners that are completing IGCSE/AS and A levels, 23 are in the process of registering with alternative institutions. Of the remaining 21 learners, a large portion have opted for tutor-centre arrangements for the completion of their IGCSE/AS/A levels.”

Spokesperson for the Department of Education in Gauteng, Steve Mabona said the school has taken it upon themselves to facilitate the placement of learners. “The department is monitoring the situation at the school to ensure that no learner’s education rights are violated.

“It must be noted that all parents were warned on time about the closure of the school. Parents who need placements were also told that they could receive help where children will be transferred to the surrounding public schools.”
