Young suspect is caught

DIEPSLOOT – The liquor license provided by the suspect contained irregularities.

Officers of Diepsloot Police Station arrested a 21-year-old man on 19 May for allegedly selling liquor with a fraudulent licence.

Spokesperson for the Diepsloot Police Station, Captain Tinyiko Mathebula, said the man’s arrest came after the police had received complaints of noise coming from a tavern during curfew hours.

The police visited the tavern on 19 May.

“A 21-year-old suspect who was found serving patrons at the tavern was asked to produce a licence for selling liquor.

“The suspect allegedly showed the licence to the police but upon taking a closer look they spotted some irregularities on the licence,” said Mathebula.

He added that the Gauteng Liquor Board was contacted to verify the authenticity of the licence and they declared it invalid.

The suspect was arrested and charged with selling liquor with a fraudulent licence and will appear in the Randburg Magistrates’ Court soon.
