Vaulters stand out

KYALAMI – Many young participants in a grade show in Kyalami at the Lipizzaner Indoor Hall showed the growth for vaulting as a sport with a record number of entrants at the beginners’ level.

Gauteng Vaulting celebrated a number of standout performances in their second show at Kyalami Equestrian Park recently.

Joanna Goeller of Gauteng Vaulting said there had been significant growth in the sport.

“The most exciting element of the show, other than the breathtaking vaulting and spectacular unitards, was the record number of new beginner [E Grade] vaulters doing a vaulting show for their first time,” Goeller explained.

“We hope to see these youngsters progress through the grades to become future Gauteng vaulting superstars, with some likely to even receive their SA Protea colours for the sport.”

In the E Grade category, junior vaulters Siyavuya Mgulwa, Giana Gonzaga and Mila Davison all achieved gold for their performances. In the D Grade Pairs for the Walk Horse category, Charlsy Loni and Shannon Roberts placed first with Katherine and Jennah Mynhardt coming in a close second.

Chloe Mohr on Mosandi Lacoste takes part in the E Grade show during the Gauteng Vaulting event.

“Vaulting requires the development of core strength, balance suppleness and fitness, while at the same time it is fun and a strong bond between vaulter and pony or horse is established

“It also brings in an element of dance, drama and creativity and requires an interpretation of the theme to music in the freestyle section of competitions.”
