Residents to get involved in uprooting criminality

MIDRAND – “It is high time the community gets involved with police to uproot criminality within the area," said Midrand police spokesperson Constable Tshwarelo Eliot Mabulane.

Midrand police invite the community to join the members in blue in their efforts to uproot crime.

Spokesperson for the Midrand Police Station Constable Tshwarelo Eliot Mabulane said the partnership with volunteers from the community would include patrols and joint operations.

“The purpose is to identify hotspots, patrol in high crime areas and apprehend suspects. The invitation is extended to residents of Midrand who are affected by crime,” said Mabulane.

The patrollers will be known as ‘The community in blue’. They will be given in-service induction on basic applied law, professional conduct and become familiar with the constitution and mandate of the police to be able to begin work with the community. “It is high time the community gets involved with police to uproot criminality within the area.”

Mabulane also invites Midrand-based youth to join the station’s youth desk forum. The youth will assist the station with awareness campaigns, attend community meetings and organise events where crime is addressed.

Mabulane said the two structures are to take off before the end of May and applicants should visit the Midrand Police Station to be vetted through a police clearance process and bring along copies of their ID.

Station commander Brigadier Molefi David Tsotsotso believes that police who work in isolation produce results in vain to address crime. Mabulane said, “We believe that the two structures will make an impact to assist police to identify problematic areas and uproot crime.”
