Up to the challenge

PAULSHOF – Community members are encouraged to take part in the up and coming Step Up for Guide-Dogs Challenge after coming off a successful 2020 campaign.

For the second year, the South African Guide-Dogs Association will host their annual Step Up for Guide-Dogs Challenge from 21 to 28 April.

The challenge requires participants to walk 100 000 steps or cycle 100km in one week to raise funds for the association.

Participants can enter individually or in groups and can update their progress on social media and on the GivenGain fundraising platform which can be sponsored by various people.

Event manager at the Guide-Dogs Association, Jackie Quail said the challenge was a success last year which took place in hard lockdown. With the great response from the community came the decision to host it again this year.

“The Step Up for Guide-Dogs Challenge is a product of lockdown and Covid restrictions as we were able to have the challenge last year as well.

“Last year, we were looking for a way to raise funds and also lift people’s spirits during the lockdown and we came up with the online challenge,” she added.

If you cannot take part in the challenge, Quail said donations were still very much welcome via the organisation’s website. Participants get to look forward to various prizes for different milestones during the week’s events.

“Each participant who raises over R750 for the association will get a fun pair of SA Guide-Dogs socks.

“We also have some awesome voucher prizes sponsored by Pick n Pay Pet Club and Mr Price Sport,” she told Fourways Review.
