Magaliessig missing pets search team sniffs its way to find missing dog in Pretoria

MAGALIESSIG– Logie said she was extremely proud of Zizou's performance during the search mission.

A Magaliessig resident along with her trusty search dog Zizou, came to the aid of a Pretoria resident who had lost their dog.

Diane Logie and her 22-month-old search dog partner, K9 Zizou, have previously participated in a number of pet search missions and to help pet owners find their missing cats and dogs.

Logie said, “Zizou was bought from K9 in Hoedspruit and was originally bred for anti-poaching, however, they realised that she is a bit soft and would be better suited to work in a home environment.

“She is currently 22 months old but has proved to be a capable pets finder. I started her off with K9 Search and Rescue South Africa but unfortunately the Gauteng unit was disbanded and we needed to find a new purpose. We qualified for missing pet search-and-rescue missions through a USA-based organisation.”

She added, “In the past few months, we have been training hard because we love our work.”

Logie explained that on 16 March she received a call from the owner of a missing dog in Pretoria North. They travelled to the area the following morning and got all the details about the missing animal. “Zizou took us down a trail and down to a road where she trailed her heart out until she got to a burnt area next to a railway line. She positively identified the dog that was unfortunately dead along the railway line.”

Logie added that she was extremely proud of Zizou’s performance during the search mission. “Zizou was incredible once again and showed how strong she is with trailing missing pets and how driven she is to help find lost pets.”
