Diepsloot youth organisation shines at Gauteng Women in Sport Awards event

DIEPSLOOT– Precious Hlaka also urged young people to get involve in different sport codes in their communities to unleash their potential.


A Diepsloot-based non-profit organisation has thanked all its sponsors and supporters after winning an award at this year’s Gauteng Women in Sport Awards event.

Youth Alive Sport Project scooped a community sports project of the year award at the gala dinner event that was hosted by the provincial Department of Sport, Arts, Culture and Recreation on 26 March this year in Sandton. The co-founder of the youth organisation that encourages local youngsters to live a healthy lifestyle and participate in sport, Precious Hlaka said they were very humbled by the award.

“Since the inception of our organisation, our focus has been and continues to be about empowering local youngsters through sport. Our goal is to unearth local talent while promoting a healthy lifestyle amongst local young people. This award is not for us, but for the entire community of Johannesburg North community,” she said.

Hlaka also urged young people to get involved in different sport codes in their communities to unleash their potential. “Sports does not only keep one’s body healthy and good looking but it can also become a source of income if you are best at what you do. Sport is the career nowadays,” Hlaka concluded.
