Kids praise first responders

LONEHILL – With a theme of superheroes for the Grade 0s, first responders received a small token of thanks for all they do.

Grade 0 leaners at Crawford International Lonehill Pre-Primary handed over a poster on 26 March thanking the first responders in the area for being their superheroes.

A number of parents who are also first responders in the area were invited to the school and given a ‘hero badge’ by the school.

Principal of the pre-primary, Caroline Miller gave a short overview of the build-up to the creation of the poster, starting off with what they thought a superhero was and who was one in their lives.

“The disciplinary theme this term was, Who am I, with a focus on superheroes. They had a good look at what makes them superheroes and other people in their lives,” she said.

“They say that superheroes are courageous, have strength and a great sense of responsibility. They also have a fighting spirit and mental stability.”

The school’s Respect, Diversity and Inclusion focus this term was on respect. Grade 0s had to think of people in their world who they respected and why. They prepared short speeches on the topic and a number of them focused on their first responders.

Grade 0 teacher Nicola van Wyk hands over the poster.

Dr Otto Schulze of Fourways Life Hospital’s radiology department accepted the poster and said it would be put up in the radiology ward. Some of the young learners also got a chance to say a few words to the two responders on site.
